Eligibility Requirements
  • Enrolled in the master’s programs of the School of Coastal and Marine Systems Science (CCU-SCMSS)
  • Completed at least one academic semester as full-time graduate student in the CCU-SCMSS program
  • Interviewed and nominated to IFG-CAU by the Office of International Programs and Services (OIPS) and CCU-SCMSSCumulative Grade Point Average of 3.3 or above
Student Exchange Semester Dates (Inclusive Dates of Study and Final Exams at IFG CAU) CCU-SCMSS students are at IFG-CAU from March to July
Deadline for Students from CCU-SCMSS to Apply for the Exchange Semester Students must submit their application through the Center for Global Engagement (CGE), LJSU 109-A by October 1, 2018
Date of On-Campus Interview Interviews of the student applicants will be conducted by a CCU committee to include SCMSS Associate Professor Dr. Till Hanebuth by October 15, 2018
Final recommendation from CCU-SCMSS with all required application materials will be provided to IFG CAU October 22, 2018
Final acceptance documentation
/letter (and visa support materials) will be provided to CCU-SCMSS and admitted students
All students recommended from CCU will be interviewed by a departmental team of advisors at IFG-CAU, and final offers of admission will be communicated by IFG-CAU no later than November 1, 2018

  • Complete the CCU On-line Education Abroad Exchange Application including the $175 non-refundable application fee
  • Submit official copies of the following documents for the application:
    Transcript from CCU
  • Color copy of student’s passport signature and photo page

Estimate Cost of Participation for CCU Students Going to IFG CAU (Social Fees, Local Transportation, Books and Instructional Materials, A social fee, which includes free bus transportation by the “Kieler Verkehrs-AG”, has to be paid each semester. The current amount is 119,50 €. (approximately $135 USD)

Health Insurance All students will be required to purchase CCU’s insurance for study abroad provided by AIG at a cost of $1.80 a day.   The coverage includes medical benefits, emergency evaluation and repatriation.

Arrival at IFG CAU
  • The closest airport to Kiel is located in Hamburg.
  • From Hamburg you can take the airport bus which is called "Kielius.” It leaves from the Terminal 1 - C at Hamburg Airport every hour or every two hours and takes you to the central bus station in Kiel.
  • From the central bus station, you reach the Christian-Albrechts-Universität/ Westring, with the bus lines 61/62, 81/82 or 91.
  • If you intend to take a taxi from the central bus station to Kiel University, you can buy a combined ticket in the "Kielius" which includes the cost of the taxi.
