Program Description:
AdAThis program is for students seeking a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Physical Theatre. The first three years of the program will take place on the campus of Coastal Carolina University. Students must then spend either a year or semester of their academic program earning 15 CCU credits each semester toward their degree while in residence at the Accademia dell'Arte in Arezzo, Italy.

Accademia dell'Arte is conceived as a vibrant community of performing artists, musicians, scholars and students working within an environment dedicated to training, researching and experimenting to realize individual goals and collaborative projects. The program is an introduction to the world of physical theatre and offers participants the opportunity to learn from world-renowned masters of their craft. Students concentrate on various physical theatre techniques and forms including contact improvisation, mask performance, Commedia dell'Arte, voice, special workshops with guest instructors in various forms, Italian language, and the philosophy of performance.

Villa Godiola will be your home away from home.  As a Villa Godiola resident, you are a member of a diverse artistic community living in a historic villa.  The ADA campus is located in the hills of San Fabiano, just outside Arezzo.  Both the center of Arezzo and the city train station are readily accessible and are approximately 20-minute and 40-minute walk, respectively.  Three public bus lines run in the area and can be easily accessed at the bottom of the hill.  The facility has wireless Internet throughout the main villa and residence halls. However, living in a Renaissance structure in the hills of Tuscany means the Internet connection may not always be stable.  Other facilities include a dining hall, library and coin-operated laundry.

Accademics: Students are nominated by the Physical Theatre Department at CCU.  Please contact Dr. Benjamin Sota for academic program details.

Accommodations: Students live in the historic Villa Godiola within walking distance to  the city centre of Arezzo, a city of 90.000 inhabitants. The Villa offers the perfect environment for artistic creation and community building.  It is our goal to create a safe space in which to experiment and grow as an artist and as a person. We aim to reach this thanks to the conception of our curriculum but also thanks to a well structured student services. We offer extensive orientation of how it is to live abroad, assistance in visa application and a school doctor.  In addition to class and studio space, the building offers student dorms, a cafeteria as well as dedicated social space.

Tuition: Students pay CCU in-state tuition plus ADA program fee.
